The Global Nonviolent Film Festival is a Canadian international festival showcasing and awarding films that do not contain gratuitous violence. The event was founded by director Bruno Pischiutta and producer Daria Trifu, members of the European Film Academy, in 2012.

Since 2016, the festival has taken place online. Prior to that, from 2012 until 2015, the event was held with live screenings in cinemas and public squares in the Romanian resort city of Brasov.

The 2025 edition will be broadcast exclusively on the popular streaming channel, GlobalCinema.online, to an international audience.

Both short and feature-length narrative, documentary, docudrama, animation, and experimental films, as well as music videos, are welcomed in every genre as long as they do not showcase extreme or graphic acts of violence that are gratuitous. Films depicting current or historical events of a violent nature, such as wars, are accepted. Films depicting traumatic events are accepted.

The awards are decided by an international Jury.

All the films and music videos that are selected at the Festival, are guaranteed a worldwide distribution contract proposal from Global Cinema Online, a pay-per-view streaming channel for films that do not contain gratuitous violence and that is available worldwide at GlobalCinema.online.

The films submitted must be in English language or have English subtitles.



▪ All the films selected are showcased during the 18-day event on GlobalCinema.online that is the exclusive host of the Festival;

▪ Each selected film is introduced - with commentary and trailer - in the Daily Video Presentations provided throughout the event. The Video Presentations and the films' trailers remain available on the Festival's streaming channel after the event ends in order to provide long-term promotion to the participating films.



▪ DARIA!, FilmDaily and IndieActivity magazines are media partners and provide daily coverage during the event. DARIA! also features interviews and articles about all the selected films and filmmakers; the magazine is available on-line and it is read by industry professionals and the general public since 2005 at DariaMagazine.com

▪ The Festival is recognized by the IMDB and all the awards are listed and linked to the respective films’ and filmmakers’ profiles.

▪ Short Experimental (max. 39 minutes)

▪ Video Music (max. 10 minutes: if longer, it must be submitted in one of the feature or short categories that best applies to the content of the video-film)
